Warehouse & Distribution Manager

Role

  • Responsible for leading supply chain network optimization and design efforts to improve the service level and cost of SHL’s existing global distribution network and to identify innovation opportunities that support the medium and long-term growth and productivity strategies of the company
  • Leads and manages activities related to the functioning of the warehouse and distribution in order to meet or exceed customer expectations and to achieve facility and company goals for operating revenue, growth, and service
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with our staff, customer contacts, internal support groups, carriers and other vendors
  • A successful candidate combines business strategy and analytic skills with experience in transportation, logistics, inventory strategy, finance, and distribution center operations

Key responsibilities

  • Develop models and conduct analyses to identify service and cost improvements (transportation, inventory, and operating expenses)
  • Gather and synthesize internal and external information to develop a distribution strategy that considers customers’ current and future requirements, company growth plans, competitive landscape and global supply chain’s impact on existing network & present analyses and recommendations to senior leadership for decision-making
  • Control inventory levels by conducting physical counts; reconciling with ERP/WMS systems. Goal is 100% inventory accuracy
  • Generate warehouse productivity report, in regard to selection rates, receiving rates and accounts for all labor hours, both direct and indirect. Communicate improvement opportunities to department
  • Oversee maintenance of warehouse equipment by providing both preventive maintenance programs and all necessary repairs. Ensure the warehouse personnel have a safe workplace and efficient equipment in order to perform their job functions
  • Implement realistic standard operating procedures and performance expectations and measurements for each task type, with action plans
  • Identify, develop and implement process improvement opportunities to streamline current tasks in all functional areas
  • Develop and maintain the relevant control activities in an ISO-certified and FDA-regulated medical device distribution environment
  • Adhere to budget requirements and work toward obtaining objectives and division goals
  • Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal stakeholders and customers
  • Keep up-to-date on knowledge of hazardous material, cool chain, and distribution services
  • Maintain physical condition of warehouse by planning and implementing new design layouts, routes and storage locations to facilitate warehouse utilization. Use warehouse handling equipment efficiently, making sure quality and budgetary targets and environmental objectives are met
  • Perform other duties as required in support of the department and the company

Supervision responsibilities

  • Responsible for department management including staffing, training, performance management and career development of associates, and developing and monitoring department goals. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assisting, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; providing ongoing training to applicable staff to develop and encourage their technical and operational performance. Meet with appropriate staff on a timely basis for performance evaluations and goal-setting
  • Responsible for the direction, coordination and evaluation of Warehouse personnel. Carry out leadership responsibilities in accordance to company policy, procedures, safety and applicable laws
  • Ensure company standard practices and procedures are followed in connection with all Warehouse department functions
  • Manage the Warehouse. Responsible for on-time delivery to customers; quality, scrap, and labor efficiency
  • Proactively analyze capacity needs and take action to support changing production demand
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts

Operational excellence

  • Manage warehouse automation, implementation and daily operation/maintenance
  • Assess existing and future requirements of the organization in determining the optimal logistic strategy and warehouse footprint
  • Develop and monitor department budget as required
  • Partner with Demand Management to ensure adequate inventory levels at product launch and throughout product lifecycle
  • Ensure, as the customer-focused point of contact, that all customer complaints and opportunities for improvement are managed, reinforcing clarity, consistency, and responsiveness

Preferred qualifications

  • Lean and Six Sigma experience strongly preferred
  • Automation experience is plus
  • Experience in working with SAP MM/SD
  • Experience in working in a fast-paced FDA/ISO-regulated environment
  • Medical device or related industry experience
  • Proven project management experience

Minimum qualifications

  • 8+ years’ experience with a demonstrated emphasis on planning and forecasting in a global organization and working with employees, vendors and complicated processes and procedures in supply chain or manufacturing operations field, or minimum 5 years of work experience in Supply Chain Network Design or Inventory Optimization with people management experience
  • A team player who can relate to people at all levels of the organization and who possesses excellent communication skills
  • An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and a positive professional image
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of end-to-end supply chain management including MRP, DRP, SAP, forecasting, inventory management
  • Exceptional analytic abilities with a data-driven approach to solving complex supply chain problems
  • Ability to both work independently and as a member of teams
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferred within Supply Chain, Business Management, Engineering or related field
